Scrum Your Way to Success with a 4-Part Persuasion Strategy

If you could only pick one skill in business, it would be to get other people to do stuff for you. Because if you only had that, you could get everything else done.

4-Part Persuasion in Scrum

The Scrum framework is designed to enhance collaboration and productivity, making it easier to persuade team members and stakeholders to take action.

Here’s a simple yet effective approach to persuasion within this framework:

  1. Add Good Stuff: Highlight the benefits they gain by embracing Scrum practices.
  2. Take Away Bad Stuff: Emphasize how Scrum reduces uncertainty and streamlines processes.
  3. Add Bad Stuff: Make them aware of the risks of not adopting Scrum, such as falling behind competitors.
  4. Take Away Good Stuff: Clarify what they miss out on by not engaging with Scrum, like improved team dynamics and faster delivery times.

To maximize the impact of these points, aim for immediate results upon their decision to adopt Scrum practices.

When I say “add bad” or “add good,” I mean make them aware of the implications of their choices.

I use this 4-part setup as my mental checklist when I try to persuade teams to implement Scrum practices.

It applies anywhere you ask people to take action.

Example

Desired Action → Join the Agile and Scrum Blueprint for Support in Scaling

  • Good Stuff You Get: Access to tailored strategies from our team that can help you immediately enhance your business agility and responsiveness.
  • Remove Bad: Eliminate confusion about the next steps. With Scrum, you’ll have a clear roadmap for scaling your operations effectively.
  • Add Bad / Remove Good: Alternatively, if you choose to maintain your current approach, you risk stagnation and inefficiencies that could hinder your growth trajectory. Remember, the quickest path to $1M isn’t necessarily the fastest route to $10M. We can help you avoid common pitfalls by implementing proven Scrum methodologies from the start.

By leveraging these principles, you can effectively persuade others to embrace Scrum and unlock its full potential for your organization.
